Middleworld: Chapter 1

Team size: Solo

Engine: Twine (Harlowe)

Roles: Narrative Designer, Programmer

Contributions

  • Writer: Conceived a unique world (a multiverse of realities surrounding one "middle" world), and wrote the entirety of the story and dialogue. The game is nonlinear, compared to traditional interactive fiction, based on a series of interconnected hub areas.

  • Programmer: Used the Twine engine, and implemented all of the story and dialogue, with choices leading to different branches.
    Programmed a unique take on turn-based combat, where items in your inventory unlock new attacks, which require a particular number, that the player uses math to reach.
    Implemented a dungeon area, with seven different random encounters (some unique, some repeatable).
